"Who's On Top?" - 10 ways to get control (time management, record tracking, goal setting)

At first glance, it would lead you to believe that positive thinking and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) have nothing at all to do with one another. On the contrary many of us who have Attention Deficity Disorder develop negative patterns of thought because of the fact that we start to get frustrated by our challenges and frequent feelings of being completely overwhelmed. This very negativeway of viewing things then makes it even harder for us to manage those challenges we face and proceed forward.

Doing positive thinking lets someone with ADD to focus on strengths and achievements, which increases motivation and happiness. This, in turn, allows one to be able to spend more time to make progress, and a lot less time being stuck and down. The tips below provide ten excellent suggestions that you can use to help youmove into thinking patterns that are more positive:

1. Don't Forget to Take Good Care of Oneself

It's a great deal easier for someone to be positive when a person is eating well, getting enough rest, and exercising.

2. Tell Yourself About the Things You Are Grateful For

Strains and challenges don't seem quite as bad when you arein the habit of reminding yourself of the kinds of things that are right in life. Taking just 60 seconds each day to stop and take the time to appreciate the good things will make areally large difference.

3. Don't Make Assumptions, Look for the Proof

A concern about not being liked or accepted sometimes causes us to assume that we know what others are possiblythinking, but our fears are usually not grounded in reality. If you have some concern that a family member or friend's sour mood is because of something you did, or that your co-workers are secretly gossiping about you behind your back, speak up and ask them. Don't waste time worrying that you did anything wrong unless you have real proof that there is indeed something to worry about.

4. You Shouldn't Use Absolutes

Have you ever told someone "You're ALWAYS late!" or complained to a loved one or friend "You NEVER call me!"? Thinking or speaking in absolutes like 'always' and 'never' makes the situation seem worse than it is, and puts programming in your brain that makes you believe that certain people are incapable of delivering.

5. Refrain From Negative Thoughts

Any thoughts you may have can't gain any power over you if you don't allow them. Should you notice yourself putting forth a negative thought, detach from it immediately, witness it, and absolutely don't follow it.

6. Step on the "ANTS"

In his fascinating book "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life," Dr. Daniel Amen writes about "ANTs" - Automatic Negative Thoughts. These are those bad thoughts that are usually reactionary, like "Those people over there are laughing, they must be talking about me," or "The boss wants to see me? It must be something bad!" When you recognize thought patterns like this, realize that they are nothing more than ANTs and crush them!

7. Practice Squeezin', Touchin' and Lovin' (Your Friends and Family)

There's no requirement for you to be an expert to understand the benefits of a good hug. Positive physical contact with friends, loved ones, and even pets, is an instant boost. The tips she got from these customers were higher than from any of those customers that she didn't touch!

8. Get Involved in More Social Activity

By raising your level of social activity, you decrease the level loneliness. Surround yourself with healthy, happy people, and the positive energy they radiate will have a very positive effect on you!

9. Help Another Person, or Volunteer for an Organization

After helping everyone has a good feeling. You can volunteer your time, your resources, or your money. The more positive energy you put forth into the world, the more you will receive in return.

10. Use Pattern Interrupts to Combat Ruminating Thoughts

If you start ruminating, one way to stop it is to interrupt your pattern and force yourself to do something completely different. Rumination amounts to hyper-focus on something negative. Rumination is never productive, because it's not solution-oriented nor is it rational, it's only a case of excessive worry. To deal with it try changing your physical environment - go for a walk or sit outside. You could also call a friend, turn on some music, or pick up a book.

When it comes to the corporate world, protocol is pretty much followed like a religion. Understanding the things that must be done represents the fundamentals of productivity, but possessing a steady mind and interaction makes up the whole thing to enable true productivity. There are those who appear to work well even when under pressure, but they're uncommon ones and we are just human and therefore are imperfect. If we get these little things like stress under our skins, our problems won't be solved. Sometimes it calls for some courage to admit to the fact that we're beginning to turning into workaholics than tell ourselves that we aren't performing at our best.
