Acupuncture originated in China and has been used by the Chinese for more than 2,000 years to treat many types of medical conditions. Of all the medical procedures now employed in the medical profession, acupuncture is one of the oldest and most commonly used today. Yet even though the Chinese have used this form of treatment for many centuries, it did not actually find its way into Western medicine until the early 1970's. When using acupuncture the practitioner inserts small, thin, solid metal needles through the skin in certain parts of a person's body. After inserting the needles they will then manipulate them using either their hands or through electrical stimulation by running a small electrical current through them. For those of you who are actually considering undergoing acupuncture treatment it is important that you use the services of a qualified and experienced acupuncture doctor or an acupuncturist. Certainly those who choose not to have found the treatment not only to be ineffective but also can lead to more pain as well. This is because those who have not had the right sort of training will often insert the needles incorrectly as well as into the wrong parts of the body. So to ensure that you get the most out of your acupuncture treatment you need to spend some time searching for the right practitioner to treat you. Below we offer some steps, which should help you to just find the right kind of person. Step 2 - After looking through the list that you have got, you should select three or four names from it and give them a call. Find out if they provide any kind of free consultation and if so consider taking up their offer. By doing this you will get a much better idea of their capabilities and whether you feel comfortable with them or not. Step 3 - It is important you find out from each of the people you are considering going to for acupuncture treatment that you know what qualifications they have. Ideally you should be looking for one who has either a degree in Chinese Medicine or has trained and graduated as a medical acupuncturist. Plus you are also looking for one who has gained their licensure exam. Step 4 - As well as knowing what training and qualifications they have, it is a good idea to find out how much experience they have. Ideally look for an acupuncture doctor or practitioner who has specific experience of treating the kind of medical condition that you have.
