5 Proven Techniques To Help You Detoxify Your Body

There is no question that toxins are more prevalent in today's world than ever before. We are adding toxins to our bodies on a daily basis. It is important to find a safe way to eliminate these harmful chemicals as quickly as we are adding them. Fortunately there are several methods that are effective.

We are constantly bombarded with chemicals in the foods we eat, liquids we drink and even the air we breathe. Bentonite, Benzene, Benzoic Acid, BHA, BHT, Bronopol and Butylparaben may not be common terms in our vocabulary but they are relatively common toxic substances found in cosmetics, foods and cleansers. This is bad enough but there are 25 more letters in the alphabet.

The good news is that our bodies do a pretty good job of getting rid of toxins naturally. Our kidneys, livers and excretory systems (including sweating) effectively filter out most of the unhealthy chemicals we take in. It becomes a problem when these natural detoxification systems are overloaded and are not effective enough. Respiratory, digestive and other serious health problems can result.

The good news is that there are ways to help your body rid itself of accumulated poisons, such as: 1-Changes in diet 2-Herbal body wraps 3-Herbal supplements 4-Cleansing plans 5-Saunas

1-Often people will change their diets either temporarily or for extended periods of time in an attempt to cleanse their systems. Many of the toxins we accumulate come from the food we eat. Processed foods are famous for their toxic content but even more natural foods like fruits and vegetables contain pesticides, herbicides and artificial hormones among other things.

Most of these detox diets are made up of fasting, drinking loads of clear fluids like water and eating mainly vegetables. Your system will get flushed out on a diet like this but they should be used for only limited time periods. Many of the necessary minerals, vitamins and nutrients for a healthy diet are missing with a detox diet and need to be replaced.

2-Covering yourself with mixtures of salts, clay, water and other ingredients such as oils is a common recipe for a detoxifying body wrap. Problem toxins reside in the cells of the body and the theory behind a body wrap is that the salts will draw these toxins out as it draws out water from the skin.

Picture yourself lying on a table covered for several hours with a thick clay based concoction and you have the basis for a body wrap. Later in this article I will describe an easier and more practical way to achieve the same results. It is important to replace the lost liquids after a body wrap. Drinking lots of pure water is a great way to do this. In fact drinking plenty of water is often reported to be one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself in general.

3-Taking pills to supply your body with herbal supplements is another common detoxifying technique. Upping the level of specific vitamins, antioxidants and minerals can benefit the way your body works. More efficient toxin removal through excretion can be a result. Altering the basic chemistry of your body can become a fairly tricky business. Having a thorough understanding of the complete process is important before you start down the path of using herbal supplements to cleanse your body. Consulting your doctor is always a good idea before starting a detoxification program but is especially important when choosing to detox with supplements. Internet research is helpful but no substitute for a doctors advise.

4-Some people go to a spa or seek out an established program when they want to use a tissue cleansing plan. Many plans consist of regimented daily schedules of enemas then cleansing drinks and liquid supplements. This series is repeated periodically during the day. Lasting a week or more, this method obviously takes commitment, dedication and a carefully calculated program. You need to be sure the program comes from a reputable source and is administered with sufficient guidance.

5-My favorite (probably because it is the easiest) involves using a sauna for detoxification. The excretory system is the main toxin removal system of the body. Most people immediately think about solid and liquid urine removal when they think about the excretory system. The fact is that the sweating process also removes surprisingly large amounts of fluid from your body. Increasing the sweating process efficiently increases the amount of fluids removed from the cell. The toxins are not only flushed out at the same time but the rate at which they are removed increases the more you sweat. This happens because the toxins become more concentrated as the cellular fluids are reduced. Saunas are an effective way to produce the excessive sweating that is required to draw out the toxins.

The first fluids to be "sweated out" come from the fluid surrounding the cells. With excessive or prolonged sweating the fluids within the cells are flushed out to replace the fluids surrounding the cell and the dissolved toxins go along for the ride. There have been cased when individuals have been exposed to very high levels of a specific contaminant and used a sauna to detox themselves. The toxin was eliminated in such high concentrations that they could actually smell the particular chemical as it was excreted in the sweat.

All of the above mentioned detoxification methods work to varying degrees and bring with them advantages and disadvantages. The most effective method is the one that is actually put into use. This is similar to exercise programs in that most can be effective if used but none can be effective in not followed over a significant period of time. Routine sauna use, unlike the other methods, becomes more enjoyable over time and a treat to look forward to instead of just a necessary evil. Fortunately it has become much more practical and affordable to have a sauna of your own. Home saunas are readily available online and surprisingly easy to set up. Complete units can even be delivered right to your doorstep.
