If you are turning to the online forum to find new friends, meet new people, and express yourself, whether through pictures, blogs, etc, you are not alone. More and more people are turning the various websites to meet new friends online. If all you care about is having a high number of people who list you as a "friend" on a website, then you aren't really looking to make friends online, you are looking to increase your popularity status. If, however, you actually want to meet people, as in, get to know them and make real connections, then looking for a site with actual friendship in mind is very helpful. For example, let us compare the experience of being on a networking focused site and being on a friendship based site. On a networking site, you can search to find old friends, often based on things like schools you both attended. On a friendship based site, you find new friends based on interests that you both currently hold. While connecting with people from your past is a fun way to pass the time, it doesn't help you find a friend. Likewise, on a networking site, you might be able to join groups based on interest, but these are based on discussing the interest, not actually participating in any kind of activity. On a site that endeavors to help you make friends online, you'll be able to actually engage with people who have a real-life desire to join you for your common activity of interest, whether that is knitting classes or working your way up to running a marathon. It can be hard to find new friends, whether you are looking to do so online or in person. One of the most important things to remember is that everybody is there for the same reason- to connect with other people and form friendships with them. Friendship means different things to different people, and everybody's communication style is different. For example, if you're the type of person who likes to always confirm meeting times the day of, don't be miffed if the person you're meeting up with doesn't automatically do the same thing- they, for example, might keep a calendar and assume that the only reason you'd need to check in would be to cancel or change plans. If you are hoping to make new friends online, present yourself in such a way that you are approachable and interesting. Indicate areas of interest that are really and truly of interest to you- not just things that you think sound good. After all, the people reading this information will be looking to see if the two of you match up. The last thing you need is for the people you'd want to meet to see your profile and not see anything there that inspires them to respond to it.
