A Site Visit Of The Olympic Training Facility In China

P57: Hoodia Purity The quarter of an hour drive from the village leads to a quiet solace with fields of cherry blossom trees, the United States Olympic Committee or USOC has made what it calls a high-performance center. Athletes can work out, eat and play in a place that generally feels like home. Well, home without Western toilets as many of the athletes have joked.

Hoodia the Olympic committee spent more than $3 million to set up and maintain the high-performance center. The center contains all the amenities an Olympic athlete could possibly require to prepare for the Games. During peak hours of the games more than 500 staff members will be on duty.

P57: Hoodia Purity The facility is not just for training. Several athletes were hanging out Monday in a lounge with low lighting and comfortable red couches. Board games like Trivial Pursuit, Jenga and Scattergories were set up on tables. However, it appears that the videogame Rock Band is the current favorite of American athletes around the facility. The game involves singing, playing guitar, and drums to famous songs. Three boxers and a gymnast said they had stayed up way too late playing songs by Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden.

Other than the recreational areas, the facility contains separate training rooms for each event, a sauna/steam room for those athletes that need to shed some weight before weigh-ins, and a gigantic dining hall. Athletes can basically eat to their hearts content as gourmet chefs prepare feasts for them. The athletes contend that the fare in the centers dining hall is far superior to the fare served in the Olympic Village.

This is the 3rd time the USOC, based in Colorado Springs, has sponsored a private training site at an Olympics. The first was in 2000 in Sydney, Australia. The USOC spent about $225,000 to renovate a rustic warehouse with a few boxing bags, some weights, cardiovascular machines and video equipment. At the Athens Games, the committee spent less than $2 million for a headquarters at the American College of Greece. Returning athletes say that the facility outside of Beijing is the best yet and it should be at a cost of $3 million.

Hoodia so how does all this add up? As of today the pampered American athletes lead in the overall medal count.
