You've set the date, booked the church, organised the flowers and ordered a photographer what else can you do to prepare for your special day? If you are an avid needleworker you can't let the day go by without commemorating it in stitches. Picking the perfect wedding cross stitch pattern is an important part of the preparations. As soon as the wedding is on the horizon you will need to start thinking of a project to stitch, as your wedding cross stitch pattern will take time to complete. Heirlooms are not created overnight. This is definitely not one of those times when you can leave things to the last minute! There are a number of companies that have created patterns especially to celebrate a wedding day. Some of those companies are: Kooler Design Studio, Dimensions, Bucilla, Leisure Arts, and many more. In fact, most cross stitch companies will have some type of cross stitch patterns for weddings. And, while you might think only of creating a sampler to be framed, the designs can include anything from pillows to wedding albums, all lovingly cross stitched by hand. Traditionally, the sampler was used as a teaching tool for a young girl in Victorian times. The young girl would learn how to sew, embroider, and cross stitch by completing an alphabet, a picture, and often acted as way to record family information. It's quite possible that it was out of this tradition that the wedding sampler was born. It is fun to choose from the wide variety of cross stitch patterns that are available. Think about the bride and groom and consider their decorating tastes. It might be nice to use the same colors in your cross stitch project as the bride has chosen for the wedding ceremony. Do the couple hold traditional values for their newly formed life together? If so, the flowers and lace commonly thought of in a cross stitch pattern might be just perfect. Perhaps they are more modern or free spirited - if so, they might prefer something bolder or less conventional. To personalise your wedding cross stitch pattern even more you could add the words from your special song. Or why not have that favourite photograph of the two of you converted into a cross stitch chart. Be aware that this option may involve the use of many colors and therefore be complex to stitch. Every bride wants to remember her wedding day. Besides the photographs taken, there is no better way to help her do that than with a hand-stitched gift. Choose carefully from the myriad patterns available. The wedding cross stitch pattern you use will be an heirloom for the couple to cherish for years to come.
