Individuals who are affected by allergies try to find out everything they can concerning the cause of allergy. The cause of allergy, in a person may not be obvious, but it is known that there is a hereditary component. Although the cause of allergy may be due to a families medical history, it indicates that members of the family are predisposed to the disorder, and not that they are certain to be afflicted. It is fairly common for one child in a family to be a sufferer, whilst their brothers or sisters are not. So, even if there is a predisposition, the cause of allergy in a particular child, is not wholly apparent, but it is more frequent in boys. It is considered that contemporary lifestyle has something to do with the cause of allergy, and contaminated air has been partly to blame. However, allergies are on the increase, so the deeper the cause of allergy is studied, the more appropriate the allergy therapies that can be devised. It has been noted that when children suffered viral illnesses, such as measles, they did not usually get allergies. Thankfully measles has all but been eradicated in the West, but before mass vaccination, it was a quite common, but nasty and infectious disease. Despite advances in contemporary medicine, there is a hygiene consideration associated with the cause of allergy. It is true, the affluent time we now live in is responsible for many benefits, but it does appear that when kids were brought up in different circumstances, they were not as prone to allergies. Also the increased use of antibiotics in early childhood has been considered as weakening resistance, if not being the cause of allergy. Food Allergies Food is a very common cause of allergy, from which millions of people suffer. The foods, which can be the cause of allergy, include: Peanuts, Shellfish, Milk, Eggs, Wheat For instance peanuts are thought to be the cause of allergy in almost two million Americans. They can be responsible for serious conditions, including anaphylaxis that can be fatal. Many of those who have peanut allergy, are also allergic to tree nuts such as walnuts, pecans, almonds, and cashews. Airborne Allergens Allergens like pollen are a cause of allergy that seem to have been around for ever, There are many people who are allergic to pets, and some mistakenly think that the fur or hair of the pet is the cause of the allergy. However, they are misadvised, as it is the saliva, which is left over when dogs, or cats in particular, clean themselves. The saliva dries out, and when discarded becomes an airborne cause of allergy, resulting in wheezing and sneezing. Molds are another frequent cause of allergy, and they are not confined to old buildings. They can occur throughout the year, and particularly thrive in damp areas, especially where airflow is restricted or inadequate. There are new buildings that have been poorly designed, where mold and condensation are real hazards. Mold is not just unsightly, but as a cause of allergy, it can be a real health threat. Medicine Allergens Some people are allergic to certain medicines, including penicillin, and similar antibiotics. They are unfortunate, that the drugs that have been so useful for the majority are the cause of allergy for them. Chemical Allergies Environmental substances, including chemicals, can be a cause of allergy. There are lots of industrial, agricultural and even household products, containing chemicals that could be a cause of allergy, and other health problems as well. You should always be cautious, and whenever feasible find natural alternatives, in preference to some of the harsh manufactured goods, with scary warnings on their packaging. Insect Bites and Stings There are many insects that may inflict stings and bites that can be the cause of allergy. For instance, yellow jackets (wasps) can be a seasonal hazard. Nobody enjoys a yellow jacket sting, but for some allergic people they can be a severe problem, and may even be fatal in rare circumstances. General To understand the cause of allergy is to be in the right circumstances to deal with it. You will know that prevention is always better than cure, and the best way to beat an allergy, is to steer clear of the allergens that trigger the symptoms. This may not always be possible, as the millions who suffer from rhinitis could tell you. After all you would not want to exist in a bubble, although even that has been necessary, on very rare occasions, for people suffering from many allergies. Avoiding particular foods, airborne allergens, medicines, and insects is something you can get used to if you must. There are highly qualified allergists and doctors, from whom you may seek advice, and many treatments are available. There are OTC, over the counter preparations, but allergies are illnesses, and as such it is in your own interests to consult your doctor, or other qualified medical practitioner, about what form of treatment is best for you.
