Adopt A Free Virtual Pet

By: Tammie Taylor

I was first introduced to virtual pets when my daughter asked for her first WebKinz. WebKinz are plush stuffed animals that are tagged with a secret code. This code allows you access to their online site where you can interact with your pet.

So, why really is the deal with virtual pets? Why would you want to adopt one? Well, unlike real pets, virtual pets allow you to experience the joy of owning a pet without all the maintenance. As a parent, it is great for me since my daughter can do anything that she wants with her virtual pet without me constantly reminding her to clean up after it and take it for a walk. So, I guess it works out for her and me. Here are additional benefits that virtual pets provide:

(1) Responsibility - You can learn the process of pet ownership before embarking on the real deal - owning a real pet. This discovery can help you and your children learn what things are required to be done in order to maintain and keep your pet happy and healthy. This will hopefully eliminate animal neglect and abuse for any future real pets owned.

(2) Cost - Owning a virtual pet is less expensive than a real animal. In addition to the initial cost, the cost to maintain cannot be compared. There are no costs associated with grooming fees, veterinarian fees, doggy daycare, etc,.

(3) No House Training - There is no need for house training. Virtual pets do not leave messy spill-ups or pet hair everywhere in your home.

(4) Educational Programs - Most virtual pet programs provide educational games that can benefit your child. These programs create an overall learning experience through games and interactions with their pet.

(5) Allergy Reduction - No ticks or fleas! There will be no issues that could potentially create an uncomfortable environment for you or your family.

(6) Companionship - Virtual pets are great companions. Many pet owners will develop strong connections to their pet as they watch them grow and develop over time.

As you can see, there are wonderful benefits in adopting a virtual pet. Once you decide to adopt just one, it become additive as you add on more and more pets. So, are you ready to get started with just one?
