Android Marketplace……Only 13 Apps???

Google’s version of Apple’s App Store, the Android Marketplace, for the G1 does in fact exist and with only 13 apps?? This revealed a day before the G1 hits the stores, the Android Marketplace was originally slated to be released with at least 50 apps, so what happened?? Word on the street is that each app needed its own security feature, so seems Google was just been cleaning house before the big reveal. Handango, announced it will be carrying android based apps, currently they have 0 apps for download.

The Android Market is “an open content distribution system that will help end users find, purchase, download and install various types of content on their Android-powered devices.” Users will also be able to rate and review applications similar to YouTube. The HTC Dream/G1 will ship with the beta Android Marketplace and only free apps will be available for download. Shortly after an updated version will be released that incorporates paid applications.

After all is said and done, the real reason that Apple commands the smartphone kingdom is not because of the great things that the iPhone does but because of all their content.
