Black is a flattering color that will most certainly make you look thinner than what you are. Avoid tight fitting gowns and allow for breathing space. Remember that comfort comes first and then the look. If you are not comfortable with what you are wearing, your prom will not be a very pleasant experience.

For those with not so flattering legs, avoid skirts and dresses with slits. If you have slender arms, wear an off shoulder gown. Gold brocade gowns go very well for such body types. Or a deep cut baring the back can also divert the attention from the legs. The essence is to play your strengths. For those with a slim figure, make sure the prom dress completely accentuates your assets. Pastel shades or metallic shades do wonders for a slim figure. You can almost carry off any color but these are colors which will be fair on a toned or a fit body. Again, for those with short legs or a heavy hip, avoid slits and minis. Concentrate on your arms or the neckline and opt for off shoulder gowns with bows near the neck. This design is in vogue now. The idea behind a successful prom ensemble is to make sure that you are wearing something that is comfortable and does due justice to your figure, no matter what it is.
