Have you just set up a great new website? If the answer is yes than do people know about it? If not then how do you get people to visit your website? The aim of this article is to give you some advice and tips on how to get traffic to your website.

It is not unusual for people to think that just because they have a website they will get visitors to their website. However this is not the case and you need to do things in order to help internet users to find your website. We have put together some tip of things you can do to help people find your website:

1. Directory Submissions

Many people will use directories to find a service they are looking for and so the more directory listings you have the better. There are a lot of free directories out there where your website will be reviewed before submission. However there are some major directories that you should look to get into, even if you need to pay. The main ones we would recommend are Yahoo!, DMOZ and Yell.

2. Blogging

One good thing you can do is to get involved in the community and a good way to do this is through blogging. The best thing to do is to go to a search engine and search for Your Industry Blog and then you will get a list of blogs that discuss your business. You can then post comments on the entries there. Try to make sure your comments are useful and add something to the original post and of course remember to include your link to your website.

As people are looking through blogs and getting information on a subject they will come across your comments and if they find them interesting there is a good chance they will visit your website.

3. Paid Search

All search engines allow for paid adverts that are separate to their normal results. If you want to get seen quickly, before you have built an SEO campaign then paid search is a good way to go. This allows you to target your adverts to the people that are looking for your service. This is one of the most effective forms of paid advertising on the internet and as long as your advert is written well is sure to bring visitors to your website.

4. Article Writing

There are a lot of article directories out there that allow people to submit content for distribution. This content is often picked up by other people to add to their websites and all copies of your article include a link to your website. The great thing about articles is that people looking for information will often read your article and if it is well written they will follow the link and visit your website. Due to the fact you are giving information in your article you have partly closed the sale before people even come to your website.

5. Sponsor a Local Event

If it is possible, sponsor a local event or charity. This will give you public exposure and in addition they will usually give you a link on their website. This means that you will pick up visitors directly from their website.

6. Social Bookmarking

Adding your website to social bookmarking sites can get it exposure and bring traffic to your website. In our experience, stumble is one of the best for traffic generation.

It is important to remember with any traffic generation scheme that you need to be patient, your figures are not going to jump overnight but with a little effort and time you should see progress.
