It includes high tensile strength to replace steel, dimensional stability to replace iron and wood, transparency adds good looks, gas and aroma barrier properties and electrical insulation are other highly demanding properties. BoPET film was developed in the 1950s; DuPont and Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) were the two companies behind this great venture. Most popular trade names for polyesters are Mylar film and melinex film. Mylar generally refers to polyester film and plastic sheets.
