At the price of a gold or a diamond studded piece of jewelry, you could pick out enough costume jewelry pieces to keep your interest level up for quite a few years!

If you are an avid follower of fashion trends, you would certainly have come across the term ‘Fashion Jewelry’. Also known as Costume Jewelry, these new-age designer accessories are hot favorites all over the world. The most common substances used in the manufacture of fashion jewelry include

•Plastic

•Synthetic material, and of course,
•Glass

It is a known fact that the most popular material used in the manufacture of fashion jewelry is Cubic Zirconia (more popularly known as CZs). CZs are so popular that they are studded into real gold by most of the mainstream jewelers all across the world. They look exactly like a diamond (to the untrained eye atleast), feel like one and even last pretty long – all at a fraction of the price. Now, that is no excuse not to buy diamonds – the real thing is the real thing after all; but still, for those who cannot afford a real diamond, these pieces of fashion jewelry are the next best thing. Now, let us consider why these are so much the ‘In-Thing’.

•Price – Obviously, the most important and the biggest reason why people buy fashion jewelry is the price factor. Where a real piece of jewelry would cost a couple of thousand dollars, the imitation piece would cost probably a couple of hundred or even less. That does not mean that they look cheap and awkward. Thanks to today’s technology, these are almost equal in weight and style to the real thing.

•Novelty – If you’ve had girls at home, you would have preferred to buy them costume jewelry instead of real diamond jewelry for two reasons. One would be that even if your kid loses these, it won’t be too much of a loss; and the second reason would be that she would get bored of the jewelry real fast. If you invest a thousand dollars and buy her a pendant, you can’t afford to replace it each time your kid gets bored!

•Flashiness – This is a pretty unique reason. Fashion jewelry is actually flashier than the real one. While dressing up for a party or a specific function, you would sometimes want to look very flashy. That would mean that you should choose costume jewelry instead of real diamond jewelry.

There are several other reasons, but these are the most commonly mentioned ones. With the internet virtually replacing most of the stores in our neighborhood, fashion jewelry also has gone online. But then, most of the sites that show up on search engines like Google and MSN are not the real deal. It is not the fault of the search engines, but several dubious businesses have sprung up with the sole intention of swindling customers. Here are a few things you can do to avoid this

•Buy only from reputed stores – This would be the most important tip. How to know whether a store is reputed? You can always check the page rank by means of several tools available on the internet. The higher the page rank, the better the site.

•Check for guarantees – Though it is called ‘fashion jewelry’, the materials used in the manufacture are excellent, and most of the popular sites sell with a guarantee. Look out for that.

•Check for secure websites – Look out for the little lock icon at the bottom right hand corner of your browser before you give out credit card information. If there is cash on delivery option, prefer that.
