Find Out About The Cause of Allergy

By: Justin Flowers

People who are afflicted with allergies try to know as much as they can about the cause of allergy.

The cause of allergy, in a person may not be entirely clear, but it is apparent that there is a genetic factor. However, whist the cause of allergy might be due to a families medical history, it means that members of the family are predisposed to the condition, and not that they are sure to be afflicted. It is fairly common for one child in a family to be afflicted, whilst their sisters and brothers are not. It means that, even if there is a predisposition, the cause of allergy in a particular child, is not absolutely apparent, but it is more frequent in males.

It is thought that modern lifestyle has something to do with the cause of allergy, and contaminated air has been implicated. Whatever the reason, allergies are on the increase, so the deeper the cause of allergy is studied, the more appropriate the allergy treatments that can be made available. It appears that when children got viral diseases, like measles, they did not contract allergies. It is good that measles has all but been eradicated in the West, but before block immunization, it was a quite common, but nasty and infectious illness.

In spite of the progress in modern medicine, there is a hygiene issue connected with the cause of allergy. For sure, the affluent time we now live in has brought many benefits, but it seems that when kids were raised in less favorable circumstances, they were not as prone to allergies. Also the liberal use of antibiotics in early childhood has been thought of as weakening resistance, if not being the cause of allergy.

Food Allergy

Food is a very common cause of allergy, from which a substantial percentage of people suffer. Foods, which can be the cause of allergy, include:

Peanuts, Shellfish, Milk, Eggs, Wheat

For example peanuts are said to be the cause of allergy in nearly two million Americans. Sometimes they are responsible for serious conditions, that include anaphylaxis that can be fatal. Many of those who are allergic to peanuts, are also allergic to tree nuts such as walnuts, pecans, almonds, and cashews.

Airborne Allergy

Pollen allergens are a cause of allergy that have always been around,

There are many people who are allergic to domestic animals, and some wrongly believe that the fur or hair of the pet is the cause of the allergy. But, they are misadvised, because it is the saliva, which is deposited when dogs, or cats in particular, clean themselves. The saliva dries out, and becomes an airborne cause of allergy, resulting in sneezing and wheezing.

Molds are another frequent cause of allergy, and they are not confined to old buildings. They can occur throughout the year, and thrive in damp places, especially where airflow is restricted or inadequate. There are new buildings that have been badly designed, where mold and condensation are real problems. Mold is not just unsightly, but as a cause of allergy, it can be a serious health threat.

Medicine Allergy

A fair number of people are allergic to specific medicines, such as penicillin, and other antibiotics. Such individuals are unlucky, that the drugs that have been so useful for the majority are the cause of allergy for them.

Chemical Allergens

Environmental substances, such as chemicals, can be a cause of allergy. There are lots of agricultural, industrial and even household products, containing chemicals that may be a cause of allergy, and other health disorders as well. You should always be cautious, and whenever possible seek out natural products, in preference to some of the harsh manufactured goods, with scary warnings on their containers.

Insect Bites and Stings

There are numerous insects that may inflict bites or stings that can be the cause of allergy. For example, yellow jackets (wasps) can be a seasonal problem. Most people try to avoid a yellow jacket sting, but for some allergic individuals they can be a severe problem, and may even be fatal in rare circumstances.

Summary

To know about the cause of allergy is to be in the right circumstances to deal with it. You will know that prevention is always better than cure, and that the surest way to avoid an allergy, is to steer clear of the allergens that start the symptoms. That may not always be achievable, as the many millions who suffer from rhinitis could testify. After all you would not want to live your life in a bubble, although even that has been a requirement, on very rare occasions, for people suffering from multiple allergies.

Avoiding particular foods, airborne allergens, medicines, and insects is a situation you can get used to if you must. There are highly qualified allergists and doctors, from whom you may seek advice, and well tested treatments are available. There are OTC, over the counter preparations, but allergies are illnesses, and as such it is best to consult your doctor, or your qualified medical practitioner, to find out what form of treatment is best for you.
