Distance learning varies in definition from person to person. For some people, distance learning refers to a process of learning through the Internet. People who take up distance learning as a mode of learning do not have a teacher physically present to teach them, but they still get the full benefit of what ought to be taught to normal students. Asia and North America are two continents that are actively engaged in accredited distance learning programs. The use of the internet to enhance distance learning has made it possible for people even in the most underdeveloped nations of the world to engage in distance learning. Distance learning has made it easy for you to stay in a remote area and still get an education. Today the primary medium through which distance learning is propagated is the Internet. Emails, voice chat, etc., are applications and software people use that far outperform the telephones and radio from years before. This makes the learning process a bit less money intensive and more conducive for all concerned. Globally, various types of higher institutions avail – on the Internet and off of it. There are many private and public, non-profit and for-profit institutions, and these offer courses and degree programs practically and virtually, using live lecturing and distance education. What you need to worry about the most is if you have enrolled in a real school that exists, or an academy that is devoted to depriving you of you money. Period. Virtually all schools in the United States today have their websites on the Internet. Many of the higher institutions also provide distance education services. There is little you are looking for that you will not find on the Internet. You can log on right now, find the school and course of your choice, and register. Teachers and students on distance education can communicate live on phone, voice chat, and such the like. This is called synchronous technology. When they have to do it such that everyone does not get to be ‘in class’ at the same time, it’s called asynchronous. Both are applicable, but much depends on the student’s choice of what the college offers. Wondering what Audiographics is? It is a two way communication system in which the student and the instructor can interact. The computer of a student learning through audiographics serves as the whiteboard where instructions are displayed. Audiographics creates a perfect balance between the eyes and ears of the student. Although the idea of using WebEx is attractive for distance education programs in various higher institutions, many are of the opinion that it defeats the whole purpose of the program in the first place. You are on a distance learning agenda because you cannot afford the time and/or the money to be in school physically. If you had to spend extra for the WebEx service, you might as well have been in school then.
