Greenery Betterment: Enjoyable Tutoring

Decorating with a Bonsai Tree

The art of the bonsai tree started with the Japanese. They had such an affinity for trees and their beauty that it became common place for a small tree, such as a bonsai, to have a prominent place in the home. Now that tree is used as a decoration in many places, and there are many different styles to choose from. As you choose a bonsai tree for your own home or office, make sure you are aware of how much space you have available. You will need to have enough room for the pot to fit horizontally and the tree to fit vertically—and keep in mind that if the plant is real, it may continue to grow Also, the container you choose should not be a mundane decision. A pot or container is not just a holder for your plant, but should also enhance the beauty of your displayed greenery.

Drying and Preserving Flowers: The Basics

Drying flowers after special occasions like weddings, graduations, or other fun events is a great way to preserve memories. Keep in mind that these flowers will not last too long on their own; the earlier they are preserved, the longer they will look timeless. Two techniques for preserving flowers lead to two totally different looks—but neither is difficult to do. The first is to hang the flower(s) upside down. You will need to dry them in a place with little moisture and light to get the maximum beauty preserved within your flowers. These flowers will be very delicate when ready, so you may want to display them in a glass box (shadowboxes also work well). The second technique for drying flowers is to press them. Since this process does not work very well with bigger or rounder flowers, consider pressing the flower’s petals rather than the whole flower; with small, delicate flowers, pressing yields very pretty results.

Desert Décor

Great home decorating invites surrounding environmental aspects into the home and makes the resident feel comfortable. Home decorating can take a unique approach in desert areas. When decorating in a rural or dry area, consider some plant varieties such as grass horsetails, bear grass, or cactus. Be creative with your desert décor by adding rock arrangements or sand. Most of these combinations will have a light red or orange feel. It wouldn’t hurt (literally) to decide on a silk cactus as opposed to a live one. They are not extremely dangerous, but it would not be a fun afternoon picking out the needles after a child has pulled a cactus plant on top of himself or herself.
