Growing Your Own Orchids

By: Gareth49 Taylor49

In countries where climates have four seasons, an open garden is possible but only allows a limited variety of plants in each season. If you want to grow certain plants like exotic, flowering or edibles you still need to look out for the season and the weather condition as most plants have particular requirements in order to grow. One favourite plant that requires constant care and attention is the Orchid. Growing your own orchids is easy as long as you have the proper environment and garden to grow them that offers sufficient protection from the harsh weather. Only the greenhouse offers suitable protection and growing environment for certain varieties of plants.

Orchids are used to their own climate and this depends on its variety and the country where it grows. Growing orchids in a greenhouse requires sufficient knowledge on its required temperature and condition. As long as you know the variety, you can install greenhouse accessories to make it suitable for your chosen orchids. Try to grow orchids of the same climate requirement, so when you reproduce the climate, you can have several varieties. Temperature requirements are categorised in 3 types: cool, warm, and intermediate. If you are set on the type you would like to grow, you can purchase the accessories you need at Hartley Botanic.

Growing orchids in a greenhouse means maintaining sufficient temperature and humidity. It is imperative that you are able to sustain the plants needs, as they will wither easily. Close monitoring is needed so a good idea is to install an automatic system to provide the needed water in case the weather is really not suitable. Prevent heat from directly hitting the orchids as it is damaging. Provide blinds or heat blocking materials, which are removable to allow sun during winter as this is the stimulation stage for growth come spring time. At the end of the flowering season, Orchids tend to rest and wait until after the end of the winter months. While the Orchids are resting, you need to keep them under full light, dry, and mist free condition as they are preparing for spring.

Be sure to keep tabs on the orchid’s requirement according to its variety. You can get great gardening tips and advice from Hartley Botanic and quality accessories you will need for your greenhouse.
