HOW TO GET A GAME TESTING JOB

By: Tiffany Fitzroy

So your parents are really worried about your future. You dropped out of college because of your video game addiction. You spend so much time in front of the game console that you forget to eat and take a bath. Do you know that you could play games and earn money all at the same time? And you need not to be a college graduate to do so. By being a game tester, you can earn as much as what a professional would earn in a year.

The fact of the matter is you can get around $15,000 to $80,000 per year by just playing a game and sending the company your feedback regarding the game. Game testers are in demand. A lot of games are developed every year, and the game companies need all the help they can get in tweaking and modifying their newly-developed game. It’s a cutthroat business, and these companies need to be ahead of the pack.

Although the job description sounds easy, there is more than just playing the game, finishing all the levels, and furnishing a comment for the game company. You need to have some knowledge about the console and the game you play.

Age is perhaps the strictest requirement game companies ask for. Game testers should be 15 years old or older. It’s a good sideline for struggling students as well. You can earn about $1,500 - $5,000 by taking a part time game testing job.

Just like any other job, you need to submit a presentable resume. Search the net for resume templates and tips. As with any other job search, you need to detail your gaming experiences. The hours you have spent over a game, and your gaming skill and capability will help the company determine if you’re the game tester for them. It will also help if you have a blogsite about the games you have played. This will give you a better reputation.

To be a game tester, you can start visiting game expos. These conventions usually have stands where you can apply as a beta tester. Submit your resume there. You can start by detecting small game bugs and defects. You can do this at home. If they see your potential, the companies will hire you the following week.

When you write a review, make sure you include the concerns and expectations of future consumers. By doing this, you will get noticed by gaming companies. They might even avail of your services more often. Just remember these specifications, so you can have a flourishing career as a game tester.
