Health And Lighting Are Among Window Blinds Assists

By: Judith Persit

Window blinds have long been a household décor staple that receives little attention. They just block the sun while contributing to the decor. Many people are unaware of the multiple benefits of window blinds. There are several different ways that their control of light entering the room can represent a savings.

If you have over-sized windows then you are definitely aware of the sun's true potential. When sunlight passes through glass, its effects are magnified. While this is an advantage in the cold winter months, it is a disadvantage during the rest of the year. The disadvantages of letting too much sunlight into the room are more than just heating it up. You will find that the sun shining on your furniture will cause major discoloration and fading issues. In fact, upholstery on sofas and chairs can be devastated by constant exposure to sunlight. Window blinds can stop this from happening. The window blinds do a great job of keeping the sunlight out of your rooms. Window blinds will save you both time and money, as they reduce or eliminate the need to have your furniture reupholstered.

But this is not the only way that window blinds represent a savings. They decrease the amount of sunlight that gets into the room, which lowers the heat index. You will save money on air conditioning and electrical bills in the hot months of summer. High quality window blinds could help save you as much as 20 percent. During winter months, window blinds can also help you to save some money. Covering the windows with a solid, sturdy vertical blind can help keep heat in the room. You will see a difference in your gas and electric bills.

Last but not least, window blinds are healthier, too. If you keep the sunlight to a minimum you will notice a difference with headaches and strain on your eyes. You will be quite pleased with the ambiance of the rooms for studying and reading. By choosing window blinds, you will find watching tv more enjoyable as you won't have to worry about the glare

Plastic window blinds made of PVC are an easy-care, simple decoration option, but this type of plastic can pose some problems in terms of environmental safety and wear. For example, with PVC there is some problem with off gassing, otherwise known as releasing of agents used during their production. This is true, however, of any PVC product, so if it is not a problem elsewhere in your home, PVC window blinds should be no cause for increased concern. Another potential problem with PVC is that long exposure to sunlight, particularly ultraviolet wavelengths, causes it to discolor and become brittle. However, you don't usually see this problem with quality PVC.

If the window blinds are made from fabric, a wide range of qualities, colors and looks are available. Stitch-bonded fabrics are an economical option for window blinds, but appealing woven fabrics only cost a little more, and do a great deal to enhance a room's decor. Although the nicer, woven fabrics cost a little extra, they offer many advantages that make the cost worthwhile.

We tend to take window blinds and their benefits for granted. For many of us, they are just another dusty thing we need to take care of at the end of the month (although another advantage of window blinds is that dust simply drifts between them so they usually stay clean.) But, window blinds offer financial savings and are a healthier option. Window blinds mitigate the harm to furnishings caused by UV rays. They also lower your heat and air-conditioning costs and make study areas more comfortable. There are so many good reasons to consider window blinds.
