Hosting a Valentines party

By: Laura Room

Whether it’s a girlie gathering or a couple’s only invite, a valentine’s party is one of the most fun to plan, prepare, and attend! Unlike others it is an excuse to get all lovey dovey and even a bit silly so everybody always has fun.

The main theme for your party supplies and party products will of course be flowers, hearts, red and white and naughty treats. Flowers can easily be distributed across the venue of your party either in vases, tied with ribbon or petals scattered across the dining or buffet tables, goodies could take the form of a chocolate fountain, heart cookies in small dishes spread across the tables, or even themed sweets and food cut into the shape of hearts to make the buffet seem more unusual.

The party decoration that will be mostly red and white, could be themed into the dining items such as cutlery, serviettes, glasses (wrapped in red and white ribbon) and the tablecloth. Balloons hanging from the ceiling, the flowers and drinks could also be themed such as red and white wine etc.

When it comes to games, you and your guests cannot really have a good time unless the game is a bit silly and everyone’s willing to get involved. Prizes could be introduced for some games and these could be anything from a bottle of wine to a small box of chocolates depending on your budget.

For some ideas, you could play valentine bingo with board shapes of flowers, hearts, lips etc and the bingo chips as chocolate or sweets, as long as the room is not hot and the players do not mind getting a tad sticky. Or there’s a couples game in which each pair have a couples name written on a sticky note on their head and by asking questions to other players they then have to guess who they are supposed to be, even though the other players are only allowed to answer with yes or no!

Other games could be playing whilst everyone has a good time and some you could not reveal the winner until the end of the party, such as placing hearts on random chairs sat on by your guests and at the end reveal who has a heart and therefore who is entitled to a prize.

If you’ve decided for a singles party or your guest couples don’t mind having a bit of fun then why not play pass the kiss. Using a credit card or playing card, pass the card (kiss) around your circle of guests and the person who drops it is out, or has to take a shot of alcohol, the prize for the winner is up to you.
