It seems like everything is so expensive these days. The purchasing power of the dollar continues to fall, both internationally and in the United States. One of the biggest economic strains in this country stems from rising gas prices. This not only forces people to pay more at the pump, but also drives up shipping and freight costs, resulting in higher prices on goods across the country. These effects are magnified in cities, where prices are already higher than in more rural areas. In Chicago, for example, gas prices have topped $3 a gallon in places. Fortunately, there are ways to stretch your dollar farther and combat high prices in Chicago: conserve energy at home, walk or use the L train to save on gas, and search Craigslist for great bargains. But what is Craigslist anyway? Craigslist is a centralized network of online urban communities throughout worldwide. Founded in 1995, originally as a resource for the San Francisco Bay Area. By 2006, there was a Craigslist site representing each of 450 cities worldwide. Since advertising on Craigslist is free (with only a few exceptions), and advertisers can place their postings in multiple sections, all organized into major categories. Chicago Craigslist (http://chicago.craigslist.org) is a great site for bargain hunter's paradise. The "for sale" section is a place where you can find the right person who wants to sell his/her stuff. It is broken up into some sub categories that makes it easier for you browsing the site to find your treasure out. Want to find a less expensive laptop? No problem! Check out the PC's board. Looking for some rims for your new ride? Find them out at the auto parts board. You may find exactly what you're looking for in the "free" if you're lucky enough. Sometimes, people give out coupons they don't need may post them in this category. You can still get a discount on something you buy frequently even you are not that lucky. Thus it pays to pay a visit and check it out every so often. But still there is something that you should beware of for this money saver. First of all, if you're looking something that is whole brand new and reluctantly to buy second hand goods, you may find the wrong place. Most items that list on CragsList are something no longer used by their owners. If you don't mind whether it's used or not, craigslist is perfectly for you. Secondly, you got to know how to get your purchased items. Are they going to be delivered, shipped, or sellers require you to pick them up by yourself? Figure it out beforehand. The last and foremost is that don't be too dependent to CL, try to compare their prices with other resources. Less expensive but better quality wins the race, of course. Please enter a paragraph
