Dmoz is the Open Directory Project, and it's one of the most well established directory on the Internet. It has existed for many years now, and many Internet marketers have come to know it as one of the best directories on the Internet. Being listed in Dmoz is almost like being listed in Yahoo web directory. But unlike Yahoo directory, there is no listing fee required. Once accepted into the directory, you will enjoy a free but immensely valuable back link from one of the most famous web directory on the Internet. There is a little problem though - it's not easy to get accepted into DMOZ directory. Here are some quick tips to help you get accepted. 1) Submit to the most relevant sub directory. This may seem obvious but many marketers find it too much of a hassle to locate and submit to the most relevant sub directory. That means they submit to Home > Sub Directory, when they should be submitting to Home > Sub Directory > Sub Sub Directory. When there is a more relevant sub directory, DMOZ will not accept the link. This is emphasized on the submission form. When you comply, you stand a better chance. 2) Submit a quality website with content. Don't just register a new domain, slap up a single web page, and try to submit your URL to DMOZ. Chances are, you won't get accepted. Your website should also not be under construction. Write some quality content for your website before submitting it for consideration. Show that your website has something valuable that you can offer. It can be content, games, applications, etc. 3) Be patient. There is no need resubmit your URL again and again. DMOZ did mention that it could take months for your link to be reviewed. But DMOZ don't send out rejection or approval emails. So you can't tell whether your link has been approved or not. The problem with such a popular directory is that there are tons of submissions daily. So it's almost impossible for the human editors to get to all of them in a well organized and timely manner. It is possible that some submissions do slip through the cracks. If you do not find your link approved by DMOZ after 6 months, try submitting again. 4) Hire professionals to do the work for you. As you can see, there are some rules that you must comply with before DMOZ will even look at your links. If you fail to comply, you stand no chance of getting accepted. If you are not familiar with the rules, it's better if you can hire someone else to do the work for you. Professional web directory submission services will be able to submit your link on your behalf, all the time making sure that the rules are closely observed. You stand a much better chance of getting accepted by DMOZ.
