What parent would not prefer to be with his or her children all day long, seven days a week? The only way that that would be possible is if we could stretch time and make days longer or if we could make an identical copy or ourselves to share the work with. Since we are human we deal with limits and there is just not really another solution than to find a babysitter from time to time. Hiring a babysitter to have time to work towards more opportunities for your child is not a bad thing but it is called “dedication”. Parents have more obligations than to personally watch the kids. By separating from your child for a limited amount of time (limited as in a few hours, a day at the most) you will have the opportunity to relax and be more reachable for your child. Sometimes a babysitter can teach your child certain things that you are not capable of teaching. When you are not sure that the time is right for a babysitter, you should consider the following facts. Are you stressed a lot? Do you feel like somebody is bugging you constantly? Are you always running out of time? Are your kids becoming so annoying that they drain you emotionally? Is being burned out an understatement? Yes, this is the time to hire help. Do you not have enough time for other responsibilities? Do all your children get all the attention they need in their particular age group? Do you have personal free time? Does your husband or wife have open needs that you should be taking care off? Hired help can be a benefit to you and the balance in your family. Did you max out all alternatives? Some people are convinced that the baby sitter stuff should not be brought up unless all other options are considered. Maybe you suck at planning? Are there relatives living in your area who are willing to help out? Some companies have daycares for the children of their staff. What about your workplace? Not all children need babysitters! Did you ask yourself if your child really does? If you are only going to be gone for a little bit chances are that your child of eight or older can be alone with a neighbor within reach. This is only possible though if you think that your child is mature enough to do so. Did you do whatever it takes to avoid accidents in your house? Do you think that your child can handle a babysitter? Overall, kids do well with babysitters. Keep in mind though that children whose environment has been disrupted recently should probably not have to deal with yet another new thing to adjust to. Disruption of everyday life should especially be avoided with children of recently split up families Can you handle a babysitter at this point in your life? How you feel about the whole thing is a very important aspect. Especially the first time hiring of a babysitter can be a huge issue. Some still consider it neglect when they hire someone to watch their child. Others feel like somebody could be taking over their spot to a certain degree. Do not step into a parent-babysitter relationship without resolving the basic issues. It is just better to do that first.
