Are you considering to refurbish your kitchen? If so, you may find the following Feng Shui information on the kitchen useful. In Feng Shui, the stove, oven and other similar items are characterized as the ‘fire’ element. On the other hand, the fridge, wash basin and other similar items are characterized as ‘water’ elements. There is a clash or destructive relationship between ‘fire’ and ‘water’ which is not desirable. Hence when you position these items in the kitchen, you should ensure that there is at least one foot (two feet is better) between them. The stove and the wash basin in particular should also not confront each other directly as this is viewed as a clash between ‘fire’ and ‘water’. They can be placed side by side and kept apart by a distance of between 1-2 feet or they can be placed perpendicular to each other. The back of the stove should also be supported by a wall. While the kitchen is classified as ‘fire’, the toilet is classified as ‘water’. To ensure that they do not clash you should check that the stove is not place against a wall that is shared with the toilet and more so if the WC is directly on the opposite side. It is also considered unfavorable form if the stove faces the door that looks into the toilet directly. You can either reposition the door or of there are no other solutions, install an auto door closer so that the door into the toilet is always closed. The overhead beam is postulated to exert a downward force that can have a negative effect on anyone sitting or standing below for long periods. When you are looking for a suitable location for the stove, make sure that the cook is not placed directly under the beam. In some designs, the kitchen is directly below a bedroom upstairs. You should position the stove so that it is not directly below the bed upstairs. Or you can move the bed upstairs so that it is not directly above the stove. It is also quite possible that the toilet upstairs is directly above the stove or oven. You should relocate them if this happens. The kitchen is a hot place and classified under the element ‘fire’. You should not make it even hotter by using a ‘fire’ type of color schemes such as the colors red and orange. You should also not use much of the color green as it represents wood which promote fire! Colors such as blue (which represents water), yellow (which represents earth) and white (which represents metal) are more favorable as they have a moderating effect on fire. In Feng Shui, ‘qi’ comes from all directions and they are not static. Some of these ‘qi’ are auspicious and some are not. The bad ones can be activated by renovation works. We should be aware where they are and not carry out renovation when they affect a certain area. For example it goes into the NE in 2007 and you should not carry out extensive renovation works in the NE sector of the house in 2007. In 2008, the affected sector is S and this is followed by N, SW, E, SE, Center, NW and W. The cycle then repeats itself.
