Knowledge Course: Rearranging: A Lost Art of Home Décor

By: Misha Vasser

Sometimes when I am at the craft store, it is easy to think that buying a certain item will add so much to the look of my home. Unfortunately, this is not great for my wallet or my house In all reality, that new exciting purchase may be the first thing I add to my next garage sale list. I have been surprised to discover that rearranging my furniture and decorations is often more satisfying—and flattering—than adding something new. It doesn’t take a lot of effort, but I feel like I have a brand new look. This way, I am expanding my artistic ability and sparing my wallet

Silk Wedding Bouquet Arrangements

Silk flowers are great for wedding bouquets. Most silk flowers are incredibly realistic and should look beautiful at the wedding. The traditionally romantic flower is the rose, and as you look at bouquet designs, you will find that most incorporate at least some roses. Great bouquet ideas don't have to be elaborate—many exquisite bouquets are simply multicolored roses formed into a ball shape, tied with string, and enhanced with simple leaves. Other more lavish designs have several different kinds of flowers or simple topiary designs, and some others have a very loose and modern feel. The bride, of course, should be presented with a bouquet that she will adore. Since you are using silk and not real flowers, you can prepare the bouquet long before the wedding day and ensure that it is exactly what the bride wants.

Decorating with a Bonsai Tree

The art of the bonsai tree started with the Japanese. The Japanese so adored trees and their splendor that they began to showcase smaller trees inside their houses, and the tree chosen was frequently a bonsai tree. Today the tradition continues with many shapes and varieties of the tree. As you choose a bonsai tree for your own home or office, make sure you are aware of how much space you have available. As with any type of greenery, you will need to consider the width of the pot and the height of the tree when it is fully grown. Also, the container you choose should not be a mundane decision. The exotic nature of the plant should be complimented by the container it is kept in.

Keeping your Décor (Relatively) Simple

Though there are lots of ways to decorate a home, the “cluttered” look doesn’t quite work anywhere. It can be easy to get carried away, but often the result is opposite of what is intended. There are those who decorate so enthusiastically that there is hardly enough space to stand up or sit down. Some garages are so full of stored seasonal furnishings that nothing else will fit. Though form is important, remember that function comes first. Think about the kitchen: most people use all the counter space they have, so to fill that area with knickknacks is usually a bad idea. At the other end of the spectrum, bedrooms are places where some decorative touches are welcomed and appreciated. A good rule of thumb is if you need to move a decorative piece out of the way more than twice a week, it probably should be thrown out or exchanged for a more functional item.
