This is even more important for us as we get older. Once we reach our forties actually being able to stay in shape becomes a lot more difficult compared to when we were in our twenties. So actually trying to maintain the ideal weight for our body size and shape becomes that more difficult to achieve. Although dieting is ideal for helping a person to lose weight, it is not effective in helping us to maintain our ideal weight once we have lost those additional pounds. Rather than reducing what you eat each day as you get older you should be planning to eat between 5 and 6 little well balanced meals every day. By doing this you are making sure that your body is still getting the nutrients it needs to remain fit and healthy but it will also help to maintain a good metabolic rate as well. 2. Many people as they grow older will fail when it comes to maintaining their ideal weight because they are constantly having negative thoughts about the way they look etc. However by remaining positive and upbeat a person will find it much more easier to maintain their weight levels and will help them to stay motivated once the weight has been lost. 3. All diets recommend that we use low fat products if we want to lose weight. But it is also important that in order for our bodies to function correctly we need to consume sufficient amounts of omega 3 fatty acids which you can get from flax seed and fish oil. It is omega 3 fatty acids which help the body to burn off unwanted fat that the body would normally store. So if you wish to ensure that the weight you have loss remains off then you should be aiming to eat food like salmon (cold water fish) on average 3 times each week. Yet if you find that this is very difficult to do then you could choose to take an omega 3 fish oil supplement each day. 4. Although you may have the perfect diet contain the right kinds of foods, you could actually find that maintaining your ideal weight is difficult if you are drinking lots of soda. The big problem with these kinds of drinks is that they contain high amounts of calories in them, but they actually prevent your body from absorbing calcium which it needs. Therefore if you are really keen to maintain your weight at a healthy level you need to cut back or eliminate these kinds of drinks from your diet. Instead you should be aiming to drink more water (pure). 5. Carrying out some kind of aerobic exercise is essential if you wish to maintain the weight you have loss. However if you want to further assist your body in burning off the unwanted fat it is important that you try and lift weights about 3 times each week. This will help to increase your lean muscle mass which is ideal for burning off the unwanted fat. So as you get older by keeping the above points in mind you should find it much easier to maintain your ideal weight. Thus as time passes you will find that not only losing but maintaining your ideal weight is not as difficult as you first imagined.
