Making Your Own Dog Bed

By: jerrybrecken

Face it! Nowadays, the fancy dog beds really cost a lot.

The positive aspect of buying manufactured dog beds is that it's more convenient on your part. Also, you may just browse the Internet for websites that offer these products and have one delivered right at the comfort of your home. Very convenient, isn't it?

The downsides, on the other hand, are beds that are either priced too much or fits too badly on dogs.

But still, you can actually arrive at a win-win solution here! If buying a dog bed is way out of your budget, then why not try making one instead? Here is how you'll do the task:

1. Have all the materials ready.

Of course, before you start making a dog bed for your pet, you have to buy all the necessary materials first. Get these materials ready for this project.

* Commercial grade foam. Make sure to buy this highly durable and comfy material.
* Fabric. Just like the foam, it should be of high-grade material, so you and your furry friend will be assured of its long-term use.
* Heavy-duty thread. It is best to choose an upholstery thread because of its sturdier quality. The color of the thread should blend well with that of the fabric. As such, never allow a visual nightmare by using a red thread on a violet fabric.
* Sewing machine. It is very much needed for the heavy-duty sewing that you will do.

2. Go for a very nice pattern for the dog bed.

Once done with the materials, choose a pattern that fits your dog's personality to a T. Take a pick from any of the following patterns, shapes, colors, and sizes: printed, striped, checkered, square, round, rectangle, dark, light, neutral, pastel, large, medium, and small.

The key here is to choose a dog bed pattern that complements your dog's personality as well as the surrounding. You may surf the Net for patterns that will make the task much easier. You can also make your own design instead.

You may also seek designs from your friends and family members. You may also opt to personalize your dog's bed by having its name embroidered or stitched into it.

3. Create!

Start working on your dog's bed once you're through with the needed preparations. You can request members of your family to work on the project with you, particularly the little kids. With family members and friends to help along, your dog bed project will surely be an enjoyable and meaningful activity.
