The English Premier League is prominent as the most watched football league anywhere, with a huge selection of international followers. Hordes of fans, from many parts of the world, want to be seen in the football shirts and jerseys of their preferred English sides. The contest for Premiership rankings is tremendously intense, and is usually dominated by the wealthiest clubs of Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. The first two are in the North of the country and the others are London teams, and they all enjoy global support and employ star performers. Think of Ronaldo of Portugal and Manchester United, Torres of Spain and Liverpool, Eduardo of Brazil and Arsenal, and Drogba of the Ivory Coast and Chelsea, and you will grasp the kind of fantastic skill on hand to these great teams. In Spain the La Liga is recognized on a similar level to the Premiership. You will know that Spain is a terrific footballing nation with passionate fans, and amazing football clubs. Amongst the best are Real Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, and Valencia. You may be aware that Spain has also been host to lots of the worlds greatest players, like Figo of Portugal, Beckham of England, Ronaldo of Brazil, and Zidane of France,. Both Manchester United and Real Madrid have been spoken of as the worlds best football clubs, although there are many who would not agree and have their own preferences. Undoubtedly these clubs are among the richest and, able to afford expert and most costly players. It seems that the most skilful players, and money, almost guarantee the success, which has helped the 'Red Devils' to prevail in the Premiership on no less than nine occasions since its inception in 1992. Football clubs such as Real Madrid are in competition with Manchester United, amongst other clubs, to secure the services of the best footballers. Consequently it was not so unexpected when David Beckham, the most famous footballer in the world, moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid, only to be replaced by Cristiano Ronaldo who is thought by many to be the top footballer in the world. There was a comparable transfer when the Flying Dutchman; Ruud van Nistelrooy also joined Madrid. Both of these fantastic teams won their respective leagues in 2006/7. Fans seek a constant level of success, and are not normally dissatisfied. Whilst individual clubs like Real and United have won many trophies, their country's national sides have not come up to the same standard. The England squad depressingly failed to make the grade for Euro 2008, and let down their hordes of fans. Certainly, Manchester United are superior to England's hopefuls, but it should be remembered that they enlist footballers from all corners of the earth, and are not limited to those who were born in their country. Of course there are some first class English players, but if you have everywhere on earth to pick from, there is a definite advantage. Soccer is a great leveller, and it may be less complicated to match up Real Madrid with Manchester United, than England with Spain. They each have immense assets, from which to secure the signing up of the top footballers. Surprisingly, Euro 2004, against most expectations, was won by Greece. May be it showed, that even for mega million pound football, money is not everything. However, the European National Championship is without the wealth of star talent obtainable from Africa, Australia, Asia, South America, and beyond, that make up the international marketplace, where leading officials compete to buy the big names.
