Having made my living online working in my boxers, often times people, like my attorney friend did after church on Sunday, come up to me and express there dissatisfaction with working in their chosen career. They are usually wondering if I can recommend something for them. Having seen other friends approach me through the years, I asked why he was asking. He said that the many sacrifices were starting to take their toll. He said that often, he was making stances for things he did not feel were necessarily right, but more than that, his family was growing up and he was missing it I asked him what he meant by that and he said that he was very disillusioned by the tactics required to further his causes. He said that he was tired of all the grey and that often times he isn't even sure what's right or wrong anymore. He explained further by saying that after being with his firm for more than 9 years, and having the high overhead at home to go with is salary, he did not think it would be easy to find something that paid as well, or had the continued upward potential. He said that he had read a book on working from home, but he did not see an obvious niche that he could make a living with. Then he said despite that, he did like the idea of working from home. As he went on to explain in detail how he had always wanted to travel, how he had dreamt about it as a kid, I realized that he had really spent some time thinking about this, it wasn't a spontaneous decision to come up to me. He said that his wife's father was in the military and he was quite tired of hearing about all the places she had been and seen. He said, that he thought it was time for him and the kids to see a few things for themselves. I said to him quite honestly that I had many people come up to me in the past with similar expressions of dissatisfaction, but that I could see that he had really thought this through. Then I asked him if he had any money to start a business? He paused for a second, and then said that him and his wife have been talking about saving more money, but he never really made it a priority. Then he said that he did have a little money, but he said he had heard that franchises take over 6 figures to start, and that he did not have that kind of money. I started to think about my path to success and said to him, "You do understand that failure, bankruptcy, and divorce are the norm not the exception before you grab the brass ring when working for yourself, don't you?" He said that in his experience, having a mentor has helped him get on the fast track before, and he was hoping that I might take him under my wing. I asked him if he knew that travel was the fastest growing industry and that it was already doing over 5 trillion dollars a year in business. He said, "Wow, I had no idea. That would be like a dream come true to make a living in that field." I told him that some famous people like Clark Howard had started in travel. I said that I had been looking into it myself and that maybe we could work on something together.
