How does a team struggling from recent defeats recover from all that has been thrown against them? Simple – Go on the offensive and see if it clicks. That seems to be the golden rule for the Minnesota Golden Gophers! It seems like an all-attack option is the best way forward for a team like Minnesota Golden Gophers. For a team like them with players like the ones they have, it is indeed strange to see them reeling under a spate of defeats. And that is when the team management, rather the think tank has thought of a way to beat out of these recessionary times, in terms of victories at least. These measures are important to save The Gophers going the way how the New York Stock Exchange seems to for the last couple months! With a two-back setup, Coach Brewster has hinted enough at an aggressive combination. The tail-back guy in this set up seems to be the most important personnel as he would be the director of most attacking moves. Additionally, the linemen and the running back would be expected to put in the additional yards. This is a strategy that has been used by a lot of teams with some success. Importantly, with this move Brewster intends to cap the string of defeats that has been haunting the Gophers. The new formation also allows the running back to have a clear field on them. With this combination, if and only if the running backs are at their optimum speed, the raids could be carried out with much more vigor and purpose than what it looks now. In terms of players’ reactions, it clearly is a mixed response from the folks who are entrusted with the job of doing it. Some players are just reacting as if they are a bunch of deer caught in Vegas Lights, completely unaware with what is happening on the field. On the other hand, there is a set of players who are responding decently to the turn of events. Jay Thomas, a junior tailback, should consider himself very fortunate that he played under Coach Glen McGrath. Glen has had a reputation of playing this run offensive many times in his coaching career. Jay and couple others have just taken to this new formation as duck to water, which can only be good news for Coach Brewster. As for the others, it is clearly a case of putting in some yards and practicing regularly to ensure that the move works out well on the field. Looking at how the Gophers are practicing, it is only fair in saying that possibly Brewster should have waited until the end of this season to try this. The only problem that can be seen is – Players are just taking too long to adapt to what is being told to them. And while all this is taking place, time definitely seems to be running out.
