Educating yourself to learn another language is one of the most rewarding challenges that you can undertake. Understanding the original language of the countries you travel adds wonders to an already thrilling experience.

The application I am reviewing is Rocket French™ which is produced by a company named Rocket Language Ltd. Marie-Claire created the course and is a native Frenchman. This company is one of the best for producing high quality language learning courses which include French, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese and Chinese, and the American Sign Language.

The first module contains 31 audio tracks that will have you speaking some basic words after your first lesson. The instruction is focused on conversational French which means you will be able to converse with French speaking natives on your trips. You will feel comfortable speaking with the locals, asking for directions, ordering in restaurants etc.

Audio transcripts are included with the lessonss and I found that particularly helpful in following along. Each audio is about 20 minutes long which means the full module is about 11 hours of content. The techniques in the lessons will allow you to absorb and speak modern French quickly. Eleven hours seems like a lot I know, but with the use of the audio tracks the time goes by very quickly and effortlessly.

The system includes an application that makes picking up the french language easy and fun. The first software application is what they call MegaVocab™.

The software works by recognizing vocabulary. I found this very helpful in the beginning. You basically run through a series of words and you learn the words through repetition, and an association with a picture. It's sort of like the flashcards you used to learn with when you were a kid.

The software has 1000 words and pictures built into it, but it also allows you to include your own set of pictures and words as you advance with the language.

After I became a little more fluent with the french vocabulary I went on to the MegaAudio™ system. This phase of the course is where I started to feel confident about all I had learned.

The software provides exercises that test and improve your recognition of the spoken words. The system provides a score with each exercise allowing you to keep track of your progress.

I found this software to be a lot of fun to use. Learning the language is one thing, but to comprehend it in real time is another. In my opinion this is where other programs fall short, and where Rocket French excels.

Another very cool aspect of the Rocket French™ program was that it isn't just an introductory course. The system was created with the thought that the student has no background in the language when starting. Yet, it also offers more advanced features as well. This concept increased the benefits of the system because I wouldn't have to go out and buy a more advanced course as I progressed.

Possibly the most impressive part of this course is the members only forum where you can ask questions and communicate with other students and the Rocket Language online instructors. To me, this forum made the cost of this course a real bargain. If you need help on something, you find lots of help in the forum.

My closing comment involves the pricing of this course. I wanted to get started straight away so I was delighted to find that they offered a download option which means they don't have to ship out CD's, software and printed material. In fact they actually will give you a two hundred dollar discount if you choose the download option (which is what I did). I was then able to listen on my computer, create a CD with the material, and even load audio onto my ipod. By choosing the download option I was able to save myself two hundred dollars and I picked the course up for just under $100.

To top it all off, the folks at Rocket offer the course with a 60 day guarantee with no questions asked. When I consider the quality of the material presented, the software, the forum participation, the guarantee, and the bargain price, I can only give the Rocket French™ program my highest rating of 5 stars. If you are looking to learn French, I find it hard to believe there is anything in the same price range that is comparable.
