Silk Orchids Orchids are one of the most dominant species of flowers. Not surprisingly, there is an almost endless selection of silk orchids you can choose from. One of the defining features of an orchid is the semi-symmetrical patterns of leaves. With orchids, all of the petals and the flower’s center are exposed. They incorporate stunning combinations of colors and employ a semi-symmetrical design, like their leaves. Because they are so eye-catching but delicate, they should be the “star” of any flower arrangements they are placed in. A couple ways to arrange them include draping them over the sides of a basket or gathering them towards the middle and adorning them with tiny flowers or well-chosen greenery. Though most have bright colors, there are also several selections of milder tones and even shades of brown. Another plus to this family of flowers is that they can be used in decorations for any time of year. Decorating with Tropical Elements A specialized theme is a fun way to decorate a room. These themes usually have to do with seasons or climates. There are some simple tips that go a long way to creating a tropical feel. Greenery is a must You will want to choose selections that have more substantial leaves with vivid colors. You can also add glamorous-looking flowers with intense colors—and it wouldn’t hurt to include a palm tree or two Some restraint is necessary to create a tropical look: you want it to be lush and colorful, but not overpowering. You will want to offset your more intense colors with more soothing background pieces—remember, tropical should not only be invigorating, it should have a feeling of relaxation as well. Rely on pictures of tropical areas—no one decorates better than Mother Nature Seasonal Decorations As you prepare to decorate your house for different seasons, keep a few things in mind to make your life a little easier. Rather than decorate everywhere with everything possible, choose a few areas to keep festive for the seasons. This cuts down on storage needs and overall work. This could be a calendar area that is designed differently each month, or a shelf on the wall with craft items. If you have young children at home, a cute way to decorate with durable, non-dangerous materials is to choose a stuffed animal and change what it wears with each month or season. One way to save money and space is to reuse what you have. Many crafts can be exchanged or reused for different seasons. For instance, you can reuse the same wreath over and over by taking out old flowers and substituting new ones. Hanging Plants: Picking and Displaying No matter the size of your house, adding hanging plants make for a great and non-invasive decorative touch. Adding hanging plants adds another dimension to your greenery (a variety of small, tall, low, and high contributes to a great look). Hanging plants are most often placed in corners: a perfect place because it adds brightness to a usually dull and dark area. Hanging plants placed in corners also stay out of the way. When hanging a plant, make sure that you are using the right materials. You will want to find a strong hook that can be adhered in some way to a ceiling beam if you are planning to hang a heavier, denser plant. There is much less to worry about if you decide to hang smaller plants with light containers. You have many choices available to you, so look around online or in gardening stores until you find something that fits your home. Whether real or artificial, a hanging plant is yet another tool to use in your home décor.
