I know, I know. You're sick of hearing about Britney Spears, aren't you? Me too. She's all over the tabloids, the rumor mills, the gossip pages, the movie screen, and now - now she's got a fourth perfume out to tickle your nose hairs, if you have any. Ok, so I'm not a Britney Spears fan, but you don't have to be a fan of the woman to like her perfumes. At least, I don't think so. All that's required is a nose and an appreciation of good smells. That is to say, I liked it; I'm not sure if you will, but it can't hurt to try! Britney Spears released four different perfumes, with the first hitting stores in late 2004. It was called Curious, and it was the number one fragrance in 2004 and 2005. Next came Fantasy, and then In Control, followed recently by Fantasy Midnight in late December of 2006. All of her perfumes have done quite well, though Midnight has reportedly not performed as well as expected. They can be purchased at local department stores or online (best price). Elizabeth Arden is the company that makes all of Britney Spears perfumes. She has given permission for her name to be used (for quite a bit of money probably), and in that area, she is definitely not alone. Paris Hilton, Elizabeth Taylor, Prince, Jennifer Lopez, and more have all given permission for their names to be used. The oldest of the Britney Spears perfume line up is Curious, a typical perfume for the non-typical female. It is packaged in a classic blue or pink perfume bottle in sort of squashed diamond shape. It is recommended for special occasions or for trying to get a good estimate on your car repair down at Hank's Garage. It is considered a youthful, fun, flowery and yet sexy fragrance. One of the middle children of the Britney Spears perfume family, Fantasy has an incredible marketing campaign. Going to the official website, there is gorgeous computer animation with lush, sensual colors and sparkles. It is amazing what this country spends on frivolities such as perfume. And even more amazing - someone got paid for thinking this campaign up! Perhaps making perfume look like Love Potion No.9 was someone's Fantasy at Elizabeth Arden. The second youngest child of the Britney Spears perfume family smells perhaps more like Britney Spears recent image as temptress and siren. Its base is white vanilla, but then includes a blend of creme brule (I kid you not), loquat fruit, midnight orchid, sugared sandalwood and musk. Most common complaint from wearers? Smell fading after an hour of use. Introduced as a follow-up to Fantasy, it hasn't quite received the standing ovation the makers were hoping for. While this might be due to Britney's troubles in the press, many people disagree, stating that the perfume just doesn't excite them. Reviews included such common phrases as: "Smells like blueberries," and "It would be a good gift for my daughter," while others were less polite. "It made me sick," and "It smells like grape Kool-Aid." Still, it has a following, though nothing like its predecessor "Fantasy." As for price, look to pay about $50 to $70 dollars in your local department store. If you shop wisely, expect to pay about $30 to $50 dollars. Both of these prices are assuming you want a 3.3 oz bottle, anything less or more will change the price. Overall, I would have to say this is a contest too close to call; some people love it and some people hate it. My advice? Try it out at any department store, then head back home to buy it online.
