By: Kaitlyn Miller

Catalog printing is an expensive process. So it is always important to insure the return of this investment through a competent and effective catalog printing design. Since catalogs are quite larger and are bulkier than brochures, people can actually be daunted by the size and length of them. In fact some catalogs can be downright long that people eventually get bored reading them. So there is a need to always keep readers interested and turning pages. If you have no idea on how to do this then you are in luck. We have a few ideas that you can follow to help you produce page turning catalogs.

Have a table of contents
One very basic thing you can do is to have a table of contents in your catalog. Some designers miss doing this part since it just adds another page to an already large print medium. However, having a table of contents is a good practice. Customer sometimes want easy and quick access to the products that they want information on.

Of course you can use the table of contents to your advantage. Since most people would probably look at that first, there is your chance to showcase a whole lot of your products in a mere glance. So take extra special care in the design of your table of contents. You can even emphasize several special products on the table itself so that customers can discover other things that they may like.

Utilize a header that tells about other pages
Another thing you can potentially add is a header on all pages with a mini table of contents. This allows you to offer people a quick glance on other products that are displayed in your catalog. This should keep your customers turning pages, and of course it is a mercy to them since they don't have to keep going back to the start to look for the content that they want.

Add enticing phrases at the bottom
Also, to keep things symmetrical you can also put a teaser on the bottom of every page next to the page numbers. This can be a preview of the next page that should entice the reader in turning next. It can have phrases like “affordable cameras next!” or “Look at our new gadget models on the next page”. Anything that may be of special interest in the next page can be previewed so that your reader's attention can be captured until the very end.

Pictures with action shots and models
Of course what catalog is not complete without its pictures and images? A good page turning catalog are catalogs that have the best and interesting images. Some of the best catalogs use action shots and models that use the products being advertised. In some of the more creative catalogs an actual short story unfolds in the pictures with the product models telling the story. Having this kind of set up, gives people incentives to read the catalog from start to end without skipping. Of course always employ handsome and gorgeous models if possible so that there is extra eye candy for people.

With those suggestions in mind you should be well in your way to creating a catalog that is sure to be read from start to finish. Keep in mind though that these design elements should be done tastefully, and it shouldn't clutter your catalog to much. So use them when it is possible to integrate them in your overall catalog printing design. Good Luck!
