Strength Train Your Lower Body And Have Wheels To Be Proud Of

By: Gen Wright

One of the most amusing things one can see at your local gym is people who have developed their upper body and have trained their "T-shirt" or "beach" muscles but have failed to train their lower body. The result is la rather unbalanced physique - a well developed torso and arms that are attached to .... skinny, malnourished-looking chicken legs.

What is it about newbie weight trainers, especially guys, having to wear sweat pants in the middle of summer because they don't want anyone to see how they have neglected their leg training? Do they think other people are so blown away with the size of their arms and pecs that they don't notice their toothpick legs? Wrong.

The greatest structures on earth have the best foundations and the legs are the foundation of your body and need to be strong and solid.

We all know how important and much admired a great pair of legs are, for both men and women.
Unfortunately, too many bodybuilding wannabes think that bulging biceps and pecs alone are the secret to an awesome physique. This belief usually results in an enthusiastic but misguided training program limited exclusively to bicep curls and pressing exercises.

The problem with this one-dimensional training is that it produces unbalanced development and can cause one muscle to become more dominant over the other. That in turn can lead to problems with muscles imbalances, joint misalignments and joint damage. Training favorite muscle groups that respond and grow quickly also serves to make lagging, weaker and smaller muscle groups look even smaller and weaker.

One of the main things you need to strive for when you are at the gym is proportionality, you need to work out so your body is balanced. To achieve this you have to train all the major muscle groups with equal energy, intensity and consistency.

Avoiding strength training your legs actually hampers your ability to build a strong upper body as well.

As 60-70% of the body's muscles are found in the lower body, by not training them not only will you look like a spider, the rest of your body will not grow as quickly and as large.
Most people do not train their legs because squats, dead lifts and split squats can be very tough and grueling exercises.

By strength training these large muscle groups intensely, your body generates growth hormone and once circulating in your bloodstream, it enhances the growth of muscles throughout your body. In this way, working out your lower body actually helps you build more muscle mass in your upper body. Your body shape will also be more balanced and therefore more attractive.

Getting your legs into top shape is truly a win-win situation. So if you're not doing them already, or you're just working them out haphazardly, now is the time to make some changes. Be willing to work hard, put some effort and intensity into your sad saplings and for something you know you will be proud of later.
