You may have heard the argument that stress is a complex condition, and simply reading stress management books cannot provide answers. These books will either be useless, or highly academic, written for professionals. Now that is both true and not. Reading stress management books sounds like a sensible course of action, but what is the reality? Human thoughts, emotions, and reactions to situations form a complex mechanism, presenting itself as stress in certain situations. Your opinion, positive or negative, is right. Unless you have a psychological background, reading a book will not explain the actual causes, or chemistry of your stress. You will probably end up totally confused, worse off than before. There is hope, though. Stress management books may provide possible alternatives to the way you deal with stress, and you can try these one by one, until you know what works for you, and what does not. The only way you will know is to actually implement these methods, and eliminate the useless ones. Some of the options may sound so simple and obvious that you may wonder why you didn't think of it yourself long ago. What you do have to keep in mind, though, is that stress affects different areas of your life, like your sleeping patterns, your work, your health, etc. Gather information that will help you to address all of these manifestations at once, exploring options like NLP techniques, vitamin supplements, habits, and even meditation. While stress management books can offer possible solutions, it would be wise to gather as much information as possible, and explore many available options before making decisions. Having information on all areas affected will allow you to make a more educated choice. You may not be qualified to offer a medical opinion, but at least you will be able to explore some possible solutions.
