The Death of Playboy Magazine Models

It’s always a sad time when someone dies but when a celebrity dies it seems as though the world is momentarily effected, and on some occasions the world never forgets. Take the death in 1997 of Princess Diana or the assassination of John F Kennedy in 1963.

So when a Playboy magazine model dies very often the reaction is much the same. A woman who has brought much pleasure to so many people, both men and women in her capacity as an artist, an entertainer and an object of beauty leaves a memory that will live on forever either on film of on the pages of a magazine such as Playboy magazine.

This was first seen in 1967 when Linné Ahlstrand, who had made an appearance in Playboy magazine in July 1958, died of cancer at the age of 31 in January 1967.

From then, until today, a total of 31 Playboy bunny girls and models who have appeared in Playboy magazine have passed away making their particular Playboy magazine back issues extremely sought after both by friends, family and collectors.

Probably the most famous of Playboy magazine models who have passed away since the launch of Playboy magazine back in 1953 are the original first issue model, Marilyn Monroe and the late Anna Nicole Smith, who in her own way, not only resembled Marilyn but also lived the same strange life and died in a similar manner.

Many years before Anna Nicole Smith‘s sudden death in the Bahamas grabbed the world‘s attention, the previous most headline-grabbing death of a Playmate was that of 20-year-old Dorothy Stratton. Just months after she became the magazine's Playmate of the Year in 1980, she was murdered by her jealous estranged husband, Paul Snider.

Playboy founder Hefner has said that he never really got over the death of his Playmate July 1980, Dorothy and in a tribute to her Playboy magazine ran a special article on her life and as her role as a Playboy magazine model.

Of the 31 Playboy magazine models who have died, 2 have been the victims of homicide, 1 died in a plane crash, 7 lost their lives to cancer, 6 took their own lives, 4 automobile accidents and the other 11 died from heart problems, post surgery problems and general health issues.
