Let's face it; the older we get, the harder it is to get rid of those ugly love handles. It’s just a fact of life, like walking! Pardon the pun. Unfortunately, flabby obliques are often ignored when exercising the abdomen. There is great news, however. Trimming the love handles can be accomplished efficiently by starting aerobic exercises which are specifically designed to address this problem area. Your body cannot just eliminate fat in one area. So if you are trying to sit up your way to a flatter tummy without exercising the rest of your body and reducing your fat intake, you'll never see results. Start by doing cardio exercises to get that heart rate up and boost your metabolism. A good power walk or jogging three times a week is a great way to accomplish this. Now let’s hone in on those love handles! Are you ready? Okay, then, let’s get to it! - Lie on your stomach and lift your head up slightly. - Either keep your arms straight out at your sides or bend them with your elbows snugly beside you. - Lift your feet and knees off the floor and flutter your legs rapidly back and forth. Pretend you’re swimming! Do this for 25 seconds. Take a 25 second break and then repeat again. Excellent! Ready for the next one? - Lie on your back with your knees bent. - Carefully lift your head up and place your hands behind your head without locking your fingers together. - Twist to the right bringing your left elbow to your right knee. Extend your left leg out. - Now twist back to the left bringing your right elbow to your left knee. Extend your right leg out. - Repeat 25 times. Okay, well done. 1 more exercise to go. - Stand with your feet 12 inches apart and knees relaxed. - Twist your torso to the left while keeping your hips and legs as stable as possible. As you twist to the left, cross your right arm in front of your body in a punching motion. - Twist back to the right and cross your left arm over your body in a punching motion. - Do 100 reps. While trimming the love handles is part of the overall components that make up an effective exercising routine, it is also important to maintain a healthy diet. With any stomach trimming exercise, love handles will begin to tone up once you start increasing your body's metabolism by exercising 3-4 times per week for at least 25-30 minutes. This does not only include crunches, sit ups, etc but aerobic-type exercises that will increase your cardiovascular output.
