Window Shades From Bamboo Are Home At Offices, Elsewhere

By: Judith Persit

Bamboo shades are natural style at home or work, with their earthy colors and airy look. The shades are a naturally occurring, renewable resource that regenerates quickly. They grow in tall bamboo forests, maturing fast as they grow 4 to 5 feet monthly. There are no chemicals needed in processing, and they have no contaminants added. A natural, biodegradable product, bamboo fits the lifestyle of those seeking to have a "green", natural environment inside as well as outside.

During manufacturing, bamboo shades, are made in low emissions factories, which also adds to their eco friendliness as a window shades product. The window shades are created by weaving sticks of natural bamboo into a mesh, to produce a large range of patterns. There are different styles, including roll up, roll down, roman shades, and horizontal and vertical window shades. This mesh and pattern quality of natural bamboo window coverings allows privacy with light management. For even more privacy or room darkening shades, you can have a linen fabric panel attached to the back-side of the shades. This enhances the beauty of the shade patterns when viewing from the inside of the room.

The bamboo slats on window shades will be very thin, to allow for ease of rolling the shades up or down. Thicker bamboo slats are used for the roman window shades styles which fold into layers. Most bamboo shades are lightweight, but there are mechanized lift systems available for assistance in lifting. Control is achieved by lifting a cord, or continuous chain system. Some systems have motors for automatic lifting and leveling.

The airy look of bamboo window shades is very relaxing, and adds a natural feel to the room where they are installed. With lighter colors, you have more of a tropical atmosphere. The medium to dark window shades provide a traditional yet modern look that is very chic. The variations in color and patterns are unique to natural materials, which is why many people prefer bamboo window treatments for their homes and offices.

In addition to their beauty, bamboo shades offer insulation from heat or cold, for savings on energy bills. Being a wood product, they help with noise protection, and are good to use in older homes that have odd shaped, and tall windows. Dust is less of a problem with the smooth bamboo slats, especially vertical styles. Another benefit to internet shoppers is their light weight, which will save on shipping costs.

Bamboo shades are natural style at home, with many decorator hues and colors available. In the office, you can cover very large windows with bamboo blinds and have light control from open and bright to darkened and serious. Vertical blinds are easier to manage in tall and wide window spaces than the horizontals because you will not have a large roll at the top.

For the odd room without windows, or basements with small windows, you can use full size bamboo shades with light colored liners on a wall area to simulate a window space, and add some natural beauty to the room at the same time. Accessorize your window shades blinds for a theme design. Add plants and flowers to enhance the natural look. Use statues and knick-knacks to form a display area for your valuable collectibles. The bamboo will provide a lovely background that is basically neutral so your collection will be featured as the focal point.

Bamboo shades bring natural style to any room, at home or at work. They are informal, relaxing, and have a bit of a tropical tone to them, which can lead to some very creative thinking. Use in one room or the whole house, for a traditional or modern look.
