GSM Connections exceeded 4 Billion

GSMA is the leading trade association for mobile phone carriers worldwide. Recently this association has unveiled a statistics about GSM subscriber world wide. According the statement there are now 4 billion mobile phone connections worldwide.

The milestone is said to reflect the growth of the mobile market, convincing the GSMA to project 6 billion mobile phone connections worldwide by 2013. But the number of connections should not be confused with the number of subscribers.
“Because of the multiple use of SIM cards by subscribers, the actual number of subscribers will be lower than the number of connections,” said David Pringle, spokesman for the GSMA,

India China and the USA are three top countries for GSM subscriber. Not only that majority subscriber are from developing countries. According Mr Pringle “They are now reachable because they have a mobile connection,” he said. “A lot of these people have never had a fixed-line connection. They’ve been outside of the information economy.

Few days before the upcoming Mobile World Congress conference which is going to be held in 16-19 February this year 2009 this report is disclosed by GSMA congress from Spain. According the statistics more than 80% of total cell phone line subscription from gsm network.

GSM mobile phone has a great demand worldwide because of it's flexibility of using any operator's sim card on the other hand the CDMA cell phone are restricted by the operators condition to use their phone only.
